Giving back to our community is the primary reason the Walnut Cove Members Association (WCMA) was created. The money raised from Member dues and fundraising activities is distributed to nonprofits serving Western North Carolina. Any WCMA Member that is actively involved in a local charitable organization that meets our guidelines can request a grant for up to $20,000. To date, over 345 grants have been made totaling more than $1.6 Million!
By pooling our charitable giving, Members are able to annually support many local charities and ensure that our collective donations have a bigger impact than any one individual donation. And because our Members are always involved in the grantee organizations, we are supporting our friends and neighbors, as well.
The application process is simple. The WCMA Member Sponsor fills out a grant form and the applying organization fills out a separate form. Both forms are available online. Applications are generally accepted beginning late summer and grants are announced by year end.
Oversight of our philanthropy program is done by the WCMA Grants Committee, comprised of WCMA Members. This Committee reviews the applications and recommends grants to the WCMA Board of Directors, which has final approval.
