We know that many of our Members are looking for volunteer opportunities, and that many of our grantee nonprofits depend on the efforts of volunteers to perform their missions. Accordingly, we have put together this list of our grantees, their needs, and how to contact them.

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP)List Item 1
ASAP serves the Southern Appalachian region by helping local farms thrive, linking farmers to markets and supporters, and building healthy communities through connections to local food.

Asheville Poverty Initiative (API)List Item 2
API feeds homeless individuals and builds community in West Asheville by serving a hot lunch six days a week, distributing groceries and providing a central gathering spot for the community.
Volunteer opportunities include food pantry; food pickups; community partner tables; free sprout giveaway events: gardening;: generating new food donor leads; marketing and communications assistance. Location: 610 Haywood Rd. Asheville NC, 28806

Bounty & SoulList Item 3
Bounty & Soul operates 10 no-cost community markets, 100 at-home deliveries and 6 community delivery sites providing dignified access to healthy food (95% fresh produce).
Volunteer opportunities include service learning at local farms; food culling and preparation; serving at food distribution events; food box delivery; community outreach events; health and wellness education; cooking demonstrations; delivering food; retail store pick ups. Calvary Episcopal Church Food PantryList Item 4
Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry provides healthy food (fruits, vegetables, milk, protein, soup and baby food) for families in Henderson and Buncombe counties.
Volunteeer opportunities include food distribution; organizing and stocking shelves. Location: 2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC.

Church of the Advocate
The Red Door Program provides individuals (the majority of whom are homeless) with a hot lunch and access to the “shoe room” and the “toiletries room” where volunteers help select free shoes and personal care items for those in need.
Volunteer opportunities include serving lunch; setting up and breaking down tables and chairs in the dining room; and helping to distribute items in the shoe and basics closets. Location: 60 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

Food Connection
Food Connection rescues food from event locations, hotels and restaurants and repackages the food into “heat and eat” meals and delivers the meals to distribution locations around Buncombe County.
Volunteer opportunities include packing meals; rescuing food; fundraising events.

MANNA Foodbank
MANNA involves, educates and unites people in the work of ending hunger in WNC.
Volunteer opportunities include food distribution; assembling MANNA Packs for Kids and Summer Packs; delivery and set up; helpline; Community Ambassador. Location: 99 Broadpointe Dr. Mills River, NC 28759

St. Vincent De Paul Society
St. Vincent De Paul Society provides financial and food assistance to those in need within the community.
Volunteer opportunities include picking up boxes and food; setting up food boxes and other food preparation activities; recording intake information from food recipients (bilingual volunteers needed); financial assistance program. Location: 109 Crescent Hill Dr., P.O. Box 39, Arden, NC 28704.

Haywood Street CongregationList Item 1
Haywood Street Congregation operates a community "Respite" facility, a one-of-a-kind facility in Buncombe County that hosts the homeless or those living in a shelter who have been discharged after an acute medical procedure that requires continued wound care and other physical care, including physical rehabilitation.
Volunteer opportunities include serving food and kitchen help. Location: 297 Haywood Street Asheville, NC.

Helpmate, Inc.List Item 2
Helpmate works to provide safety, shelter, and support for victims/survivors of intimate partner domestic violence.
Volunteer opportunities include in-kind donation team; operational shelter projects; outreach ambassadors; hotline advocacy; childcare; reception. Helpmate also welcomes any special skills, classes or ideas that may benefit survivors and/or our staff. Location: Family Justice Center, 35 Woodfin St, Asheville.

Homeward BoundList Item 3
Homeward Bound focuses on preventing and ending homelessness in our community by providing permanent housing and support.
Volunteer opportunities include helping at our AHOPE Day Center; providing/hosting a meal; hosting a specialized community connection based on interest (board games, arts & craft, movie nights, yoga sessions, poetry workshops, etc.). Location: 19 North Ann Street, Asheville.

Western Carolina Rescue MinistriesList Item 4
Western Carolina Rescue Ministries serves the homeless, poor, and addicted populations of WNC, including through Abba’s House, which provides addicted women who are pregnant or have young children with a free safe space to work towards recovery and other goals.
Volunteer opportunities include designing a 4-6 week basic financial course designed for single moms; meal service; groundwork; organization of donations; fun activities/crafts/bible study with women and children in Abba’s House and Women’s Center. Location: 225 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801

ABCCM’s Doctor’s Medical Clinic serves those who are uninsured and under resourced (generally those with an income less than 250% federal poverty level, or roughly 40K for a family of 4).

Pisgah Legal ServicesList Item 4
Founded in 1978, Pisgah Legal Services provides free civil legal aid, anti-poverty advocacy, assistance with applications and appeals for access to healthcare for vulnerable people with low incomes.
Volunteer opportunities include Health and Economic Opportunity Program (such as tax filing and health insurance assistance); attorneys can assist with a wide array of civil legal matters, including landlord / tenant law, protective orders and family law remedies; Pisgah Neighbors Program (such as providing rides, preparing for a move, helping with affordable housing vacancies, or visiting with clients who are in need of company).

Echoes of the Forest
Echoes of the Forest takes salvaged Hurricane Helene trees and repurposes them into art by woodworkers and local artists to educate the public about this significant, geological, 1000-year event about forestry and our area.

Established in 2015, Pisgah Area SORBA is a chapter of a larger regional group focused on maintaining and expanding roughly 100 miles of mountain biking trails in the Bent Creek Experimental Forest.

Our WCMA grant supports the Asheville Humane Society's Community Solutions department, which provides medical care, exams, labs and meds for pets with urgent medical needs whose families, such as seniors, victims of domestic violence, the homeless or housing insecure and veterans, could not afford to pay the expenses without this assistance. Our WCMA grant supports the New Leash for Life program, which partners with the Western Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain to allow inmates to train and live with young, rescued dogs under the supervision of a professional dog trainer.
